Introduction

The objective of the Centre for Portuguese Language & Culture (CPLC) is to encourage the learning of Portuguese language and deepen the understanding of Portuguese culture.

Aware that Portuguese is the national language of nine countries in the world and is the second most popular world-language after English in July, 2008. The College inked a Memorandum of Understanding with the Instituto Camões, Portugal under the Foreign Ministry of Portugal, to establish our Centre for Portuguese Language & Culture (CPLC).

Inception

The Centre for Portuguese language & Culture commenced its activities from the academic year 2009-2010. It was inaugurated by H.E. the Consul General of Portugal in Goa, Dr. Paulo Neves Pocinho on 12th July, 2008.

ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT

PORTUGUESE LANGUAGE LEARNING COURSES.
TThe language courses are conducted for five levels: Basic, Elementary, Intermediate Vantage and Autonomy. These courses are held in the afternoon and evening. Each course involves 120 hours of learning and is completed in three/five months. The batches commence in July and January. The examination is conducted by Instituto Camões and the certificates are also issued by them.

PORTUGUESE AT B.A. LEVEL
We commenced Portuguese in the College in June, 2012. Students can major/minor in this subject at B.A. level.

PORTUGUESE LIBRARY
Career Instituto Camões has gifted over 100 portuguese books to the college. We also regularly buy books and videos.

OTHER ACTIVITIES
Career Instituto The CPLC also conducts workshops for Portuguese teachers, Portuguese Language Day celebrations and Portuguese Day.
